FIRST LEGO League is an international program for
children ages 9-14. It combines a hands-on, interactive robotics program and a research presentation with a sports-like atmosphere.
Each year teams are challenged to solve real-world problems by applying math, science, and technology.
Our Robostars design, build, and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS technology, ingenuity,
and a lot of teamwork. They are guided by their imagination and mentors (including Mrs. Dupuy,
Mrs. Pichon-Milford, Northshore High's robotics team, and 3
engineers from Stennis Space Center).
Team members spend several months investigating, building, and testing their robots.
The FLL season culminates in friendly tournaments held worldwide.
2007 FLL season's theme is Power Puzzle which challenges teams to explore how energy production and consumption choices affect the planet and our quality of life today, tomorrow, and
for future generations.
The BEE Robostars won the Rookie Award and came in 7th place in the challenge mission portion of the Louisiana FIRST LEGO League
Championship Tournament on December 1, 2007. The winning team from Louisiana is eligible to compete in the FLL World Festival at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta in April 2008.
WWL TV's Making the Grade featured the Robostars in 2008. The BEE Robostars
were one of 12 nominees selected to be presented in a print campaign and public service announcements that are
broadcast throughout the school year. In addition, Bonne Ecole Elementary was awarded $2,000 by Omni Bank, sponsor
of the Making the Grade program.
